Digital Main Street, in partnership with Roncesvalles Village BIA, is pleased to announce that <\/span>AirQ<\/span><\/a> has been selected to pilot its air safety mo<\/span>nitoring solution <\/span>as a part of the Digital Main Street Lab program. Funding for this pilot is made available through the <\/span>Digital Main Street Future Proof program<\/span><\/a>, with <\/span>support<\/span> in part <\/span>from<\/span> the<\/span> Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario)<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of the pilot project,<\/span> AirQ<\/span> will <\/span>complete over<\/span> 400 <\/span>air quality<\/span> measurements and 30<\/span> air quality<\/span> audits for the <\/span>small <\/span>businesses <\/span>in Roncesvalles<\/span> Village<\/span> BIA. <\/span>Twenty-five<\/span> businesses will have their <\/span>air quality<\/span> permanently<\/span> monitored<\/span> through the installation of<\/span> custom sensors<\/span> developed by <\/span>AirQ<\/span>.<\/span> These sensors <\/span>collect live air safety<\/span> data<\/span>, measuring the amount of exhaled air present<\/span> and can trigger fans <\/span>or alarms if <\/span>air<\/span> safety<\/span> drops.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>The presence of exhaled air, measured as CO2 parts per million, can inform businesses of the risks related to aerosol transmission of <\/span>COVID-<\/span>19 <\/span>particles. <\/span>This pilot will leverage <\/span>these <\/span>indoor air safety measurement<\/span>s<\/span> to support the success and recovery<\/span> de<\/span> Roncesvalles<\/span>\u2019<\/span> local businesses<\/span>. <\/span>Bus<\/span>inesses with outstanding air safety<\/span> will be featured on <\/span>AirQ\u2019s<\/span> online map.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Digital Main Street Lab seeks to pilot projects that help <\/span>main street small businesses find innovative ways to attract customers. <\/span>Preliminary air quality testing p<\/span>er<\/span>formed by <\/span>AirQ<\/span> has shown that <\/span>93% of <\/span>main street businesses have high<\/span>–<\/span>quality air<\/span>. <\/span>At a time when both staff and customers are hesitant to enter indoor spaces as a result of the risk of <\/span>C<\/span>OVID-<\/span>19 <\/span>transmission, <\/span>AirQ\u2019s<\/span> sensors and measurement capabilities provide a data-enabled manner by which to measure<\/span> and m<\/span>anage<\/span> the risks caused by poor air <\/span>flow.\u00a0<\/span>While no setting can be deemed zero-risk, ongoing monitoring of air quality is an important step towards the identification of <\/span>low-risk <\/span>indoor <\/span>settings and <\/span>the <\/span>ultimate goal<\/span> of a safe return to indoor activities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Digital Main Street is a program that helps main street businesses achieve digital transformation. The program is built around an online learning platform, structured training programs, and our Digital Service Squad, a team of street-level team members who help main street businesses grow and manage their operations through technology.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Digital Main Street was created by the Toronto Association on Business Improvement Areas (TABIA) with direct support from the City of Toronto. A $<\/span>42.5<\/span>-million<\/span> investment <\/span>from <\/span>FedDev<\/span> Ontario and an additional $7.45 million from the Government of Ontario brought together the Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas, <\/span>Communitech<\/span>, Invest Ottawa, and the Ontario Business Improvement Area Association to expand the Digital Main Street Platform in order to support more businesses to go digital as a response to the impacts of COVID-19.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
