Capturing Moments – Encouraging Conversations
Jim Naughton is the energetic and creative photographer behind The Crazy Tiki. Jim’s love for photography began over 35 years ago as a hobby and has been something people have come to know him for. A few years ago, Jim filled the need of a sports photographer by creating a team banner for one of his sports teams. From there the interest grew, he started to freelance his services and products casually as a side hustle.
Now, The Crazy Tiki creates one of a kind composite images, banners and sports memorabilia as well as headshots and portraits. The Crazy Tiki is dedicated to the highest quality of sports photography, delivered with imagination, energy and originality to athletes by capturing their inner beast. As they gain momentum, The Crazy Tiki is looking to become the name that athletes and their teams turn to for their photography needs.
When the COVID-19 pandemic began Jim stayed home to care for one of his children. During this time his position with his employer was eliminated and he found himself without a job to return to. This gave Jim a reason to up his game and take his love for photography and his business to an all-new level. During his efforts he learned of the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre and what they had to offer. He was then committed to his life-long dream, which opened a new chapter in his career.
Jim worked with the ShopHERE powered by Google program and his eCommerce Coordinator, who Jim says went above and beyond his expectations. His Coordinator took the time to listen to their business needs and made recommendations in the development of their amazing website. Jim says,
“I could not be happier with the results.”
Jim's experience in the ShopHERE program was enjoyable from start to finish. His Coordinator made the journey clear and easy to navigate through each step, providing the time to explain and recommend certain features. They also provided a wealth of references, links and videos to complement this information. Jim says the process was easy and painless, and that it felt great to have a supportive program that wants you to succeed and make this big task less daunting.
“The ShopHERE Program was beneficial to my business by teaching and helping me create a presentable and organized website. This is something that would have taken me much longer to achieve otherwise. The store that was created looks sharp and represents my company well.”
The program also provided marketing support and knowledge that was helpful, and he is now “totally confident” in managing his site moving forward.
When asked how Jim enjoyed the program, he claims that,
“…this is an amazing program that every small business should take advantage of. It provides the business with a good starting point for advertising your business and selling your product online. Furthermore, it provides the business owner with the knowledge and basic tools to grow and improve the site as the business grows, since they take the time to teach you how to use your online platform. I highly recommend this program to anyone.”
When Jim applied to the ShopHERE Program as a business owner, his biggest hope was that his new online presence would provide him with the ability to promote both his business and his products to a greater audience. Now having completed the ShopHERE experience, Jim says that the biggest new opportunity is his ability to communicate with his customers. He can now more easily engage and inform both his current and future customers about The Crazy Tiki. Going forward Jim says he is excited to get in the routine of keeping his new online presence up to date and fresh with his latest projects and features.
When asked about what advice Jim would give to a fellow small business who is looking to navigate and expand their online presence with a new eCommerce website, he said,
“… stay focused and calm. It can be overwhelming if it is not your forte so listen and filter the information you get. Not everything works for everyone and you don't have to do it all at once. Plan your way to achieve your goal.”
