From international stages to a local studio in Toronto, Igor Borysov, owner of Ballroom Expressions Dance Studio is helping students build confidence through dance while growing its reach with digital tools.

At Ballroom Expressions Dance Studio, a lifelong passion for dance has grown into a space where students build confidence, connection, and skill through movement. Owner Igor Borysov began dancing at just 10 years old, eventually competing across Europe in all 10 International Ballroom and Latin dances and earning finalist placements throughout his competitive career. After completing a Master’s degree at Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, he went on to build an international career as a performer and spent 15 years working on cruise ships as a Company Performance Manager.

When he moved to Canada in 2022, opening his own studio had long been a personal goal. That vision became reality with Ballroom Expressions Dance Studio.. “I aim to create a welcoming environment where students of all levels can grow, build confidence, and enjoy the beauty of dance.” As the studio began to grow, so did the need to build a stronger digital presence. Igor first connected with Digital Main Street through the Mount Dennis BIA in 2023, where he received support through the Digital Transformation Grant. That early support helped him begin navigating a space that was entirely new to him. “Overall, my experience with the program (was) very positive and valuable.”

One of the most important parts of that early journey was access to funding and learning resources. “After registering, I applied for several grants that supported the growth of my business,” he explains, noting that “the program offers a wide range of educational resources, which were especially helpful for me as I was new to digital marketing.” Those resources quickly became a turning point in how he approached his business online. “Through these materials, I gained a much better understanding of online marketing strategies, digital platforms, and how to effectively promote my business.”

As he built confidence in the digital space, that learning translated into practical application. “Since I was new to online marketing, the program helped me understand how to use social media, online platforms, and other tools to promote my services,” he shares, adding that “Participating in Digital Main Street helped me overcome the initial challenges of navigating the digital space and gave me the confidence and tools needed to establish and grow my online presence.”

In 2025, Igor expanded his digital journey through the Canada Digital Adoption Program and is now working directly with the Digital Service Squad to strengthen his SEO and online visibility. This includes learning how to use tools like Google Keyword Planner and Google Search Console to better understand search behaviour and improve how potential clients find his studio online. That work has already had a noticeable impact on his business. “I learned how to present my business online in a clear and professional way, which helped build trust with new customers,” he says. “It also became easier for people to find my studio, learn about what I offer, and contact me.”

With a stronger digital foundation in place, growth has become more consistent and connected. “Overall, these digital tools helped me attract more clients and stay connected with my customers, especially new students and wedding couples.”

Looking ahead, Igor’s focus is on expanding awareness of ballroom dance in his community and making it more accessible for beginners. “My main goal for the future is to make the studio more visible and better known in the community,” he shares. “I want more people to discover the benefits of ballroom dancing and feel welcome to try it.”

Digital tools will continue to support that growth as he refines his online presence. “By improving my online presence through social media, website updates, and online promotion, I will be able to reach more people and make it easier for them to find information about classes and book lessons,” he says. “This will help me connect with new clients and grow the studio steadily.”
