An Etobicoke Catering Company ‘Future Proofs’ Their Business
Like many small business owners, Sarah Locke and Christine Berce were stunned when faced with the challenge of pivoting their business model in the wake of COVID-19. With the ongoing pandemic and increasing restrictions to social gatherings, owners of Yorkshire Pudding Catering Inc., a catering company in south Etobicoke, realized their business needed a digital transformation. The two sought the help of the Future Proof Program, an initiative which helps small Canadian businesses create and implement an advanced digital transformation plan.
“We had much to improve on when it came to our digital marketing and online presence. As small business owners, we have to wear numerous “hats,” (accountant, marketer, HR, etc., etc.) so it was difficult to decide where to focus our attention.”
Being savvy businesswomen, Sarah and Christine worked with a Business Transformation Team over the course of five weeks, to develop and implement an advanced digital transformation plan. “It was a very easy to follow plan with clearly laid out objectives and goals. The team and Joshua were awesome. Very prompt, professional and really great people to work with,” Sarah says.
“I was surprised (in a good way!) at how many people were involved in our plan. All team members I dealt with were deeply knowledgeable and provided great information/assets in their area of expertise.”

With the help of the Transformation Team, Sarah and Christine are now well equipped to produce social media and email marketing campaigns that attract new customers and generate leads. With a detailed Search Engine Optimization and website audit, the duo now knows how they can be found online more easily by potential customers and provide a more user-friendly e-commerce experience to their audience.
“We now have a clearer idea of where to focus our efforts and funds. Although “digital marketing” can seem overwhelming for a small business, the program really helped to break down the various elements needed to be a successful online business. We plan to use the resources and assets provided to kickstart a social media campaign and to use the SEO analysis to improve our search rating over the coming months.”
“The team has provided us with guidance on how best to start improving our marketing and online presence. It can seem a little overwhelming at times, so it was helpful to have the process broken out into more manageable chunks.”

In spite of the pending pandemic, Sarah and Christine remain optimistic about the future of their catering company. With the guidance of the Transformation Team, the pair feel confident promoting their services on various online platforms. They’re glad they ‘future proofed’ their small business to withstand and continue to grow, in any climate.
“The Transformation Team is great for any small business that’s struggling to figure out where to start with their online marketing strategy. From social media assets/tools, to Search Engine Optimization analysis and website design, the Future Proof Program provided us with a great deal of resources and assets to help kickstart our digital transformation.”
