The Clay Trade - The Journey To Bringing A Trade Online
Nestled perfectly within the heart of downtown Medicine Hat resides The Clay Trade; an artisanal pottery shop featuring the work of many local potters. Owned by Bruce and Jan Dynes, The Clay Trade was founded on the rich history of clay in the Medicine Hat area. The community had nurtured and cared for so many clay artists in the area, and the owners wanted to support those artists as well. The Clay Trade also provides these artists with another platform for people to discover their beautiful artistry.
Janice and Bruce Dynes have a deep love of their community and that love is shown through their business. The gorgeous works of art available at The Clay Trade are all one-of-a-kind pieces. They carry a variety of items that range from beautifully painted mugs, and functional cookware to outstanding sculptures. Their goal is not only to showcase the wonderful works of art that stem from their community but to also remind people of the rich pottery scene within Medicine Hat.
After over 40 years in business, The Clay Trade has watched the economy and shopping world change around them. With the pandemic forcing more people to shop online instead of in-store, the Dynes knew that an online store would help to boost their presence. However, they were initially unsure of where to start with building their online store. It was this desire for additional help that led the Dynes to the ShopHERE powered by Google program.
The Dynes were paired with an eCommerce Coordinator who knew exactly how to help with building their online store. Not only did they build a great relationship with their Coordinator, but their Coordinator ensured that the Dynes would have the necessary skills to maintain their website after the program
“Coordinator was awesome. She helped in every area and allowed me to also learn how to navigate through the site. Never could have done this alone.”
While the task of building an online store may have been initially daunting, the Dynes’ personal eCommerce Coordinator was able to efficiently help to build their website. Their eCommerce Coordinator ensured to build the website exactly to their liking while also guiding the Dynes through the process. The Dynes’ website features stunning product photography of each of the creations they have available. Their website is also sorted into collections that not only make navigating the site easier but also allow customers to buy products from their favourite artists. The website is both beautiful to look at and offers a unique shopping experience.
“Grateful for the opportunity to set up our store with the advice of a coordinator. I don't think I would have tackled this project without the support.”
Alongside the help of their eCommerce Coordinator, the Dynes were able to receive the support that they needed. Now, they have a wonderful website that displays all of the beautiful work hosted within their store. Janice Dynes was truly appreciative of her time with the program and is still ensuring her website looks as amazing as it ever did.
