Small Business Spotlight: Tensegrity Manual Therapy
Sara Throness, founder of Tensegrity Manual Therapy in Toronto, built her practice on evidence-informed care and a commitment to helping clients manage chronic pain and post-surgical recovery. Through Digital Main Street programs and Digital Service Squad support, she strengthened her online presence, streamlined operations, and positioned her clinic for sustainable, client-centered growth.
For over 18 years, Sara Throness has been dedicated to helping clients move better and live with less pain. In 2018, she took the next step in her career and opened Tensegrity Manual Therapy in Toronto’s Annex/Seaton Village neighbourhood — creating a clinic rooted in evidence-informed care and personalized treatment. Over time, Sara expanded her expertise through advanced training in specialized modalities, particularly myofascial release and lymphatic drainage. After completing all three levels of the Vodder Institute’s Manual Lymphatic Drainage program, her practice increasingly focused on supporting clients recovering from surgery, acute injury, and those managing lymphedema. “My approach combines hands-on clinical massage therapy with a strong foundation in anatomy and movement education. I strive to create an environment where clients feel heard, understood, and supported in their long-term health goals“, Sara shares.
While Tensegrity grew steadily through word-of-mouth and referrals, Sara recognized that strengthening her digital presence would be key to reaching more clients in her community, so she looked to Digital Main Street for support. “I participated in the Digital Main Street program during a period when I was looking to strengthen my online presence and better connect with potential clients. At the time, I understood the importance of digital tools, but navigating websites, online booking systems, and digital marketing felt overwhelming.”
Through mentorship, grant funding, and personalized guidance, the Digital Transformation Grant program (DTG), and the Canada Digital Adoption program (CDAP) helped Sara identify gaps in her digital setup and implement practical improvements. From enhancing her website to optimizing online booking and improving local search visibility, the changes created a more seamless client experience. “Through the program, I learned that digital adoption isn’t just about having a website or social media—it’s about creating a seamless and professional experience for clients at every touchpoint”, she says.
Beyond the DTG and CDAP programs, Sara has continued working closely with Digital Service Squad advisor Aaron as her clinic evolved. As Tensegrity shifted from a general Registered Massage Therapy practice to a more specialized focus, Aaron has assisted with brand development, website enhancements, SEO improvements, and optimization of its Google Business Profile and analytics to strengthen visibility and client trust. He continues to guide strategy and support with Google and Meta Ads campaigns, ensuring sustainable, client-centered growth and strong digital positioning.
By refining her digital strategy and investing in long-term support, Sara streamlined operations, reduced administrative work, and made it easier for clients to find and book her services. More importantly, she strengthened her connection with both new and returning clients by creating a professional and accessible online presence that reflects the care she provides in person. “These changes saved time, reduced administrative work, and allowed me to focus more on patient care. Most importantly, they strengthened my connection with clients by making my services more accessible and transparent.”
Looking ahead, Sara is focused on sustainable growth while maintaining the personalized approach that defines her practice. She plans to welcome complementary health professionals into the clinic space and expand her impact through workshops and online educational content.“My digital strategy will continue to play a key role in these goals. By refining my website, improving local search visibility, and using targeted online marketing, I aim to reach more people in my community who need high-quality manual therapy”, she says. “Digital tools will help me scale thoughtfully while maintaining the personal, hands-on approach that defines my practice.”
Through a commitment to clinical excellence and strategic digital adoption, Tensegrity Manual Therapy continues to evolve — ensuring more people in Toronto can access the high-quality, client-centered care Sara has built her career around.
