Monik Robichaud is an Acadian Canadian artist and youngest child and daughter of the late Senator Louis J Robichaud, who was the Premier of New Brunswick from 1960-1970. Monik, her husband, three cats, a dog and one lovebird live a quiet life in Muskrat Lake, Ontario. Monik signed up for the ShopHERE Powered by Google program because she could not afford her own website. When this opportunity arose for a free eCommerce website she was grateful to everyone involved.

Monik’s main goal is “to help wildlife art lovers remind themselves of nature’s beauty through one-of-a-kind original art.” She spent her working career in advertising and printing, but now concentrates her time on painting. Monik’s paintings are unique, colourful and detailed. Her art is one-of-a-kind because she chooses not to sell prints, but instead sell only the originals of her acrylic and oil paintings of wildlife. With the help of the ShopHERE program, Monik has a renewed self-confidence and hope.

“Most people want to succeed on their own, and if projects like this come about to give them the boost they need to be an equal playing member, then the sky is the limit to people’s betterment.”

Monik feels the whole point of being on the planet is to be a better species – and being online with the assistance of the ShopHERE program helps. Monik’s website gives her the chance to sell her artwork, which she finds fantastic. Even more so in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, which “is no picnic” and has caused the shutdown of many events and venues. Having an online presence has allowed Monik to have a space to share her paintings with anyone who comes across her website from anywhere around the world.

“Any serious artist demands a professional website and I love mine very much!”

Monik felt like a student during the process of getting her website set up. While her eCommerce Coordinator worked on the website, she had the peace and calm to hone in on improving her craft. With the ShopHERE Powered by Google program, Monik got one-on-one support and training in how to make the most of her free eCommerce support. She noted her eCommerce Coordinator, Erica, had unlimited patience and only her interests in mind, making the process “delightful.” They had virtual meetings so that Monik was always informed of what steps were next.

Now, Monik is continually learning how to handle the website herself. Her eCommerce Coordinator sent her many resources to read, understand, and implement practices to further improve her website after it’s completion. While difficult for Monik, she is determined to give it all and has discovered: “You CAN teach an old dog new tricks.”  She is learning to find her niche market and sell effectively and convincingly.

Monik feels like financially, the ShopHERE Powered by Google program is a no-brainer. You need a website to sell online, but usually they are expensive. All of these costs add up if you’re starting out with no sales. ShopHERE made having an online presence possible for Monik, and she finds the learning alone an incredible value for the free program. It is exactly what she wanted and needed.

To see Monik’s paintings, you can find her online store at monikr.square.site.
