Beyond the Basics of Shopify Theme Development

In this workshop, participants will dive into available resources for more advanced customization of Shopify themes. We’ll go over the various APIs provided by Shopify and look at how we can integrate shop products into third party sites using the Shopify JavaScript SDK. We will then dive in and explore a relatively new feature to Shopify, Sections, which allows the developer to create modular templates that the store manager can add and edit. Finally, we will look at how you can use JSON to customize the available settings in your theme.

What will I learn? 

• Including shoppable products on a static site with the Shopify JavaScript SDK
• Fine-tuning the customizability of your site with personal settings for the end user
• Adding modular, reusable, and editable blocks of code with Sections

What will I build?

• A static one-page site with products pulled in from your Shopify store
• A theme with custom editable settings and a customizable modular gallery

What will I need to bring?

• Shopify partner account
• Computer running latest OSX or Windows
• Sublime Text, or another plain-text editor

What are the prerequisites?

• Participants in this workshop must have an understanding of the Shopify environment and have done some Shopify development, or have completed the first part of this workshop.
