Brownie Connoisseur Shares Passion To Turn Baked Goods Into Art
Between her fiancé, children, and her friends with large families, Katelyn “Katie” Pierre has a handful of birthdays and celebrations in her calendar year. Her journey as the CEO of Baked by Kay began throughout all of those events as a self-taught brownie connoisseur. After months of contemplating if starting a business would be the right decision for her family, she officially opened in May of 2021.
Katie is the sole owner of a bakery located in Brampton, Ontario, and her business was opened during the COVID-19 pandemic, so she feels as though she can relate to so many new business owners. Katie’s goal is to share her love for baking and her passion to turn baked goods into a true form of art. Creativity is something she does not hold back on in the Baked by Kay kitchen.
It started with cookies and brownies, then moved on to cinnamon rolls and cinnamon sticks. Yummy little additions to complete someone’s birthday party or to share with the kids on Friday night have always been and will always be about creating a memorable experience. Katie started this business to always have a reason to bake for the ones she loves.
Katie’s experience with the ShopHERE Powered by Google Program with Digital Main Street has been nothing but smooth sailing. Katie would like to encourage all small business owners wishing to take the next step to branch into the online market to use this free service.
“I think it is such an amazing resource for small business owners. I was actually shocked when I heard that Digital Main Street was offering a service like this completely free. Nonetheless, I am so incredibly grateful to have been connected with the ShopHERE Program.”
Through the ShopHERE Program, Katie’s eCommerce Coordinator helped her build a professional-looking storefront on Square for local consumers to purchase on. Her eCommerce Coordinator did an outstanding job of transforming a concept into a true representation of her brand. She was not only kind, considerate, and patient, but she was also able to answer any questions Katie had about her website. Katie was guided through the website development process and was taught how to operate her online store independently and confidently. Katie attempted to develop a website utilizing an online website builder prior to joining the ShopHERE Program with minimal success and knowledge. With the support of her eCommere Coordinator, building her website from start to finish this time around was a stress-free experience.
“The result of my website is outstanding! I literally cannot stop getting compliments on the final result. People seem to love the overall feel of the website. We have also begun taking catering orders for events towards the end of 2021.”
Katie is a mother, a sister, a daughter, and a fiancé — there are days where she can only scrape together twenty minutes of business time a day. Her advice to small business owners is to take it day by day. All progress is good progress; even if it’s an hour or two, it counts!
The past two months have been extremely successful for Katie ever since the launch of her online store. Her business has grown consistently on social media, she has had opportunities to bake for a handful of events like birthdays, baby showers, and holidays, and she has had the pleasure of collaborating with several incredible small businesses in her branding photo shoot. Baked by Kay has been fortunate to be able to continue to expand as a brand and as a business.
