Expanding into the Digital World

DSS Studio’s products meld function and form. Domes, Canopies, and Fixtures are built from aluminum; Structures are formed from shapes interlocked. These transformable structures follow industrial design principles, while also having an organic quality – expanding and contracting like a natural system.

DSS’s story begins at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia with the research group from the course “Structural Morphology in Architecture” at Valles School of Architecture. The research group is a collective focused on the Morphology of Lightweight Structures. A decade later, their studies have expanded across the Atlantic Ocean to Ottawa, Ontario.

“We wanted to bring our knowledge to the commercial world and make an impact on society by implementing new ways to use materials efficiently and reduce waste in the construction industry.”

Like many businesses during the pandemic, it had been a challenging time for DSS Studios. They recognized that they had to change how the business was envisioned, and how they could reach customers. Moreover, they wanted to invest their money correctly, toward the growth of their business.

This is when they requested the support of ShopHERE powered by Google.

“This program is a great way to learn about how to use the tools needed to reach new people and make our concepts more popular”.

With one-on-one consultations from their “friendly and professional” eCommerce Coordinator, DSS Studio was able to customize its Shopify site to meet the company’s goals. Providing knowledge and experience, DSS’s Coordinator also supported the development of their Social Media Strategy and Marketing Plan, integrating their Social Media Accounts with their eCommerce platform.

“The biggest opportunity is to reach new channels of communication to share our ideas and find new customers. The challenge is to understand this new environment and adapt our ideas.”
