The Power of Confidence: Making A Dream Her Reality

Studio 22 Aesthetics was founded by Alex Somers in October of 2021 and is located in Hamilton, Ontario. Studio 22 specializes in creating long-term relationships with clients by providing high quality, personalized and speedy full body waxing along with other aesthetic services such as lash lifts, tints & body contouring in a safe and inclusive salon. With top of the line products, techniques, experience and knowledge, Alex ensures clients of all genders, ages, body types, backgrounds and abilities receive exceptional, gentle and safe aesthetic services at a competitive price.

Alex’s career in the aesthetics business began 16 years ago, working for different salons and spas in Toronto, Hamilton, and Vancouver. After taking time to reflect on these businesses Alex found they each had the same agenda, to make as much money as possible. This led to clients receiving services which were rushed and impersonal.

I think everyone can relate with the idea that during the pandemic we all had a lot of time to reflect and sit with our thoughts. It was during this period in time that Alex realized she did not want to work in establishments like this any longer.

“I wanted to offer a safe space for everyone to come and receive personal services while feeling appreciated, comfortable and pampered at the same time.”

This meant taking the time to build those trusting relationships which turn into lifelong dedicated clients. In October 2021, the doors of Studio 22 Aesthetics opened and led Alex on a wild but fun ride ever since.

”I had a vision to create a business that caters to everyone with no prejudice or discrimination. Having 16 years of experience in the industry gave me the confidence and drive to take this dream and make it a reality.”

Since launching her online store through the ShopHERE powered by Google program, Alex has already noticed the difference as she has received an increase in customers booking online for their aesthetic services. Alex says the “feedback from clients is that it is very easy to use the online booking and the website it set up is very user friendly.”

When Alex applied to the ShopHERE Program she had a vision of what she wanted in an eCommerce website. With the help of Krishna, the ShopHERE Program eCommerce coordinator who worked alongside Studio 22, Alex was able to execute exactly what she wanted and communicate exactly what her small business is about.

“Krishna exceeded my expectations 100%. He is knowledgeable, patient, creative, kind and all around a pleasure to work with. Any issue I had, he resolved and was always available when needed. He was diligent in checking in and making sure I had everything I needed while transforming my website.”

When asked about what advice she would give to another small business who is looking to navigate and expand their online presence, it would be to simply apply to the ShopHERE Program and get started. The ShopHERE powered by Google program is beneficial not only for building an eCommerce website but for the digital marketing side of business too. Providing helpful coordinators, training, support, marketing, free .ca domains and Facebook advertising credit. “Why wouldn’t you use this program?”

“The past two months as a small business owner have presented challenges as any new business might. With restrictions lifted, I am confident business will flourish in the months to come.”
