On Saturdays, Latin American expats from across Southwestern Ontario gather at Familia Fine Foods in Burlington for authentic Colombian lunch.

Main street businesses couldn’t matter more to the city of Burlington. “We actually have the highest retail concentration in Ontario,” explains Andrew Elliston, manager of business development at Burlington Economic Development Corporation (BEDC). So when COVID-19 hit, supporting that vital economic driver for the region was paramount.

Mainway Physiotherapy had gotten comfortable being a word-of-mouth business. The Burlington clinic had seen organic growth over the past five years, adding clients through referrals and gaining accolades like the Burlington Post Readers Choice Awards for best physiotherapy clinic and best massage therapy.  

For the majority of the past 15 years, Linda Crawford’s Burlington-based Uplift Custom Bras has mostly serviced local clientele. But this past summer, after redoing her website, a flood of inquiries from the U.S. and even the U.K. and Australia started to roll in.
